There are also souvenir items for sale available at the coffee house. These include handmade coffee mugs, sweatshirts, t-shirts, compact discs, magazines, and books. They are open to serve as venues for special events, private parties, live music and artist showcases.
And some of the artists or bands who are frequent in Jammin Java to have their live performances include Hannah Miller, Red Perspective, ZuZus Petal, Don Russo, Patrick Davis, Like Father Like Son, and more.
The coffee house is opened Monday to Friday from 7am to 3pm. It is closed every Saturday and Sunday.

Losing Sleep Due To Frequent Urination? Maybe You Have Nocturia

Nothing is more annoying than waking up in the middle of the night because of the feeling to urinate. Imagine being awake because of that, only to realize you can’t sleep anymore. Sounds familiar? Maybe you have nocturia.
But what is nocturia and why should you care? Let’s take it from the National Sleep Foundation and other sleep experts.
I. Definition, Causes And Symptoms
Nocturia is a health condition, which is characterized by a frequent need to go to the bathroom even at night. In this condition, one wakes up while sleeping just to urinate, even for two or more times at night. For those with severe nocturia, they could get up for five or six times each night.

Another reason is that as we age, we also lose our holding capacity, which results to our need to expel the fluids from our bodies.

It could also be caused by excessive intake of fluids and food with high water content, especially caffeinated beverages, which makes the person feel the need to urinate at night.
II. Affects Old People The Most
As previously stated, this condition is common among old people. So common, that in fact, in a poll conducted by the National
Sleep Foundation in 2003 called, “Sleep In America,” nearly 65% of the respondents aged 55-84 reported about experiencing this problem at least a few nights a week.
Nocturia is a serious problem because it causes disturbed sleep patterns, which in turn affects one’s quality of life. Severe drowsiness affect people’s mental and physical performance, decrease their productivity during the day and make them more emotionally frustrated due to the fact that they are not getting any rest at night. It could also be a source of accidents among older adults as they get up to urinate at night.
III. The Cure
One possible treatment for nocturia is through desmopressin, an anti-diuretic that controls or prevents one’s frequent urination. Clinical trials have proven its efficacy in reducing the number of times one goes to the bathroom.
If nocturia is caused by another disorder, that condition must be addressed, and the nocturia will go away.
Another remedy is by seeking advice from a health care provider. It is recommended that a patient keep a diary where the actual number of times he has urinated at night are recorded, as well as his sleeping habits and his daytime fatigue. Through his diary, the doctor will be able to give the patient the right type of therapy.
Drinking at least 3 hours before bedtime will also help in preventing one’s self from urinating. The more food with water content and fluids one consumes throughout the day, the greater amounts of urine must be expelled.

The Healthy Way to Enjoy Your Coffee!

Yes, coffee has definitely been rumored to be an unhealthy drink in past years, but the great news is that those rumors have been proven false! There is a huge coffee culture in America, and it truly is the best way to start your day. Caffeine does work as a diuretic, which has the potential to prevent calcium absorption, and it can also cause anxiety and insomnia in large doses. However, studies have shown that regular coffee consumption, which is around 3 cups per day, does count in your daily fluid intake and will not cause dehydration. So what else can coffee do for you?
A recent study performed by the Harvard School of Public Health did show that those who drank coffee regularly had a significantly less risk of developing gallstones and Type 2 Diabetes. Coffee is full of antioxidants, so it works to neutralize free radicals underneath the surface of the skin to prevent disease and premature aging. Coffee also has the potential to prevent Parkinson’s disease, which is according to a study from the Archives of Internal Medicine. In the same manner, coffee will also prevent cirrhosis of the liver.
Coffee did come in second as the healthiest beverage in a report formulated by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Coffee is definitely rising to the top of the list in health benefits, especially due to its high antioxidant content! Pregnant women are recommended to cut back or avoid coffee altogether because of the caffeine content, but many health professionals do say that you can enjoy coffee in moderation during pregnancy. A study that was done on pregnant rats in taking caffeine did show negative effects, but the equivalent of the caffeine in the study was up to 70 cups of coffee per day! Pregnant women can easily enjoy a cup of Joe or two per day without any adverse health effects.
The bottom line is that you can feel free to enjoy your Java in moderation. If you are not sensitive to caffeine, then keep in mind that caffeinated coffee provides better health benefits than decaffeinated coffee. In all of the previous studies mentioned, decaf coffee did not show the same positive effects as regular coffee. These benefits include reducing the risk for gallstones and Type 2 Diabetes. One other thing to keep in mind is that a study done in 2005 on Coffee and Lipoprotein Metabolism showed that drinking from 3 to 6 cups of decaffeinated coffee per day did raise the levels of blood fat in the body that are associated with LDL cholesterol. This is not an issue that regular coffee drinkers have.
If you are interested in decaffeinated coffee, then make sure that you select a brew that is formulated with the Swiss Water Process. This is a method of decaffeinating coffee that does not use harmful chemicals, but it only uses water to remove the caffeine from coffee beans. The great thing to remember is that more than ever, coffee is a healthy way to start your day!

Tea comes in various blends, such as green, white, and black teas, as well as yerba mate and oolong tea – all of which are caffeinated. When tea is produced, each blend, however, doesn’t come from a different plant. What plant tea comes from varies with location, with teas from China and Japan coming from one tea bush and teas from India and Sri Lanka coming from another. In order to grow, tea plants need fifty inches of rain per year and acidic soil. In addition, tea grown at higher elevators tends to produce higher-quality blends, as the plant is allowed to grow slower. The tea that you see in a bag or in a loose blend, however, is only picked from the top two inches of a bush. The top two inches, referred to as a flush, grows again every seven to ten days. If allowed to keep on growing, the tea bush would eventually become a tree.
The species of Camellia sinensis varies with the location in which it is grown. In China, as well as in Japan and Taiwan, the species of tree is C. sinensis sinensis, a smaller leaf species. Assam tea, the blend grown in India and Sri Lanka, is a larger leaf tea that goes by the species C. sinensis assamica. Generally, teas in this region, including Ceylon blends and Indian black tea, but Darjeeling does not. In addition, a third species can be found in Cambodia, C. sinensis parvifolia, a tea bush with medium-sized leaves.
How are the separate tea blends created? Once the tea leaves are picked, they go through a process called enzymatic oxidation, which is heating the picked leaves to deactivate the enzymes in them. The leaves, before being oxidized, may be wilted or dried. For black tea, the leaves are heated and dried at the same time. White tea, on the other hand, is neither wilted nor oxidized, and an offshoot of white tea, yellow tea, has the same process, but the leaves are allowed to “yellow” or age slightly afterwards. Green tea is similar, as well, only the leaves are wilted. Oolong tea, generally a stronger flavored black tea, has leaves that are wilted, bruised, and partially oxidized.
When you purchase tea, the blend isn’t always pure. For better flavors, tea from both types of plants, as well as different blends, are mixed together for a better-tasting blend.

Green Tea Extract – Quality Nutritional Supplements Aren’t Cheap!

If you buy cheap green tea extract pills, you might get saw-dust or a toxic contaminant. If you don’t read the label carefully, you might not get many antioxidants, at all. You could get other ingredients that are bad for your health. Here’s how to find a good supplement.
On the label, you should see the percentage of catechins an polyphenols that are in the extract. For example, the label might say 100mg or extract, 98% polyphenols, 80% catechins. The source of the supplement should be the camellia sinensis plant. Other than herbal teas, all teas come from this plant. To make the black varieties the leaves are oxidized. Oxidation changes the flavor and also greatly reduces the catechin content.
The supplement should not contain additional amounts of caffeine. Many of the green tea extract pills that are sold as weight loss, diet aids or fat burners contain lots of additional caffeine. An extremely low price is a dead give-away. Either the capsule is nothing but sawdust or the retailer decided to buy from one of the “bad” sources. But, even high quality green tea extract pills are not the best thing that you can do for your health.
If you are like most people, you have a busy life. By the time that you finish working and taking care of all of your other responsibilities, you barely have time to eat. What you choose to eat is probably a convenience food. Even the healthy looking ones are not good sources of nutrients. Taking a good multi-nutritional supplement will make a huge difference in how you feel and maybe how you look. The best ones include essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids, as well as a variety of plant extracts. These supplements are a far better value for your money than green tea extract pills. Think about it, before you buy.

It is important for them to note, however, that a decaffeinated green tea is as readily available as any caffeinated green tea. In this way, they will not have to worry about their caffeine intolerance, and yet, still be able to reap the health benefits of drinking green tea.
For those who take green tea readily along with its caffeine, it is also important that they be aware of the side effects of having too much caffeine in their system. Caffeine in green tea, like in coffee, causes nervousness, palpitation, jitters, insomnia, and dizzying spells. These side effects, however, pass after some time and pose no serious health problems. For long-time green tea drinkers even develop a graduated tolerance of caffeine and its side effects.

No doubt about it, you will want to reduce stretch mark lines from appearing on your flawless skin. After all, who wants to sport reddish, pinkish, whitish or brownish wavy lines on your belly, thighs, hips, buttocks and arms? Fortunately, there are many effective tips on how to reduce stretch mark lines. Some of them are common sense while some of them are rooted in medical science. Some of them are very affordable while some of them will require plenty of money. No matter what you choose, however, it is always important to keep at it simply because stretch marks will not be significantly removed without active effort on your part.
Adopt a Healthy Diet and Engage in Moderate Exercise
Your skin will manifest the things that you feed your body, to paraphrase a popular saying. As such, your diet is very essential in keeping your skin healthy and, hence, reduce stretch mark lines and their unsightly appearance. You must avoid food items that cause dry skin such as processed, packaged and frozen foods because of their high sodium content. Also, caffeinated drinks such as soda, coffee and tea as well as alcoholic beverages are a big no-no.
Instead, you should add more fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fish and lean protein, nuts and seeds. If possible, you should also supplement with omega-3 oil and flax seed oil as well as Vitamins A, C and E, all of which have been proven to keep skin as supple, as elastic and as healthy as possible. Along with a healthy diet, you should also exercise. You provide more blood and oxygen into the skin when you exercise, thus, helping your skin repair itself from the tears on its cells.
Apply Topical Applications
Another effective tip on how to reduce stretch mark is the application of topical anti-stretch marks creams and lotions in and around the affected skin area. These usually contain ingredients like collagen, peptides, vitamins and other herbal ingredients that have been proven to lessen the appearance the marks. You must be very careful, however, since many anti-stretch marks products are nothing but scams. Of course, you should keep your skin as moisturized as possible with ordinary lotions. The more moisture your skin receives, the better for you.
Use Self-Tanners and Go for Tattoos
For temporary cover-ups, self-tanners do a wonderful job of it. You can either spray yourself with it or go to a professional tanning salon for the procedure, the results of which can last for up to a week at little cost to you. For permanent cover-ups, you can always go for tattoos on the affected area. Of course, you have to discuss your options with the tattoo artist as skin texture has a significant part in this decision.
See Your Dermatologist
If you wish to permanently remove your stretch marks and you have the money for it, you should see a dermatologist for medical treatments. These will include laser treatments as well as skin exfoliation, both of which will not be covered by insurance as these are purely cosmetic procedures. The results, however, should be worth the money.
You can mix and match two or more of these tips on how to reduce stretch mark depending on your preference and budget. Again, keep at your chosen treatment to see positive results.

Green Tea – Caffeinated Or Not?

It has been well established that green tea has many health benefits. It increases your energy, speeds up weight loss, bolsters up your immune system, and calms the nerves. It aids in preventing various cancers, helps to regulate your cholesterol by combating plaque in the arteries, and fights viruses like the flu.
When comparing the antioxidants and the flavanols in decaf versus regular green teas, these healthy components suffer a serious loss in the decaffeinated teas. There are still some left, and you would have to drink two or three times as much of the decaffeinated tea to pick up the antioxidants and flavanols again.
Before you make the decision to switch, consider some other pertinent factors. There are around eighty-five mgs of caffeine in your mug of fresh coffee, where green tea contains less than forty. Catechins (polyphenol antioxidants) are lost by decaffeination. Unless you have health problems that require eliminating caffeine from your diet, a reasonable amount caffeine is good for you. It makes you feel both more energetic and more alert. And caffeinated green tea contains more flavor, as well.
The two main processes used for decaffeination are ethyl acetate and carbon dioxide. Of the two, the carbon dioxide method is more desirable, as it retains more of the flavonols and antioxidants. The ethyl acetate method is used more frequently, though, and leaves a residue of solvent in the tea when decaffeination is completed. However, the level of solvent is considered safe for you to drink, and in fact, it does occur naturally in tea in very small amounts.
If you have made the decision to stay with regular green tea, there are a few things you can do to combat the effects of caffeine. For one thing, drinking it with food slows the absorption of the caffeine. The different varieties of green teas have different amounts of caffeine, and vastly different flavors. Some of the Japanese teas are lower in caffeine than the Chinese teas. Explore them!
It is also beneficial to brew your tea properly. The best tea to use is a loose leaf, fresh tea of good quality. Read the container for directions. It will surprise you to see that most teas do not suggest boiling water, but rather a very hot water, at about 170 degrees. Brewed correctly, several cups a day would not exceed the caffeine limits recommended by experts. It’s worth it.
